How many gallons per hour should i be moving through a 20 gallon sump tank for a 30 gallon Saltwater tank?

You should have atleast 4-6 time the number of gal. you have in you tank (and some say sump too) go though your sump an hour. So that will be (120gph min. to 180 without counting the gals in your sump) with sump it should be 200gph min. to 300.
It depends what you have in you tank on how much water flow. but as long as you have more than 4 times you should be ok. But, I always tell people with saltwater you atleast want 5-6gph time gal in your tank. the more water movement the better. I have a 72 gal and i have about 600 gph in just my filters not counting my powerheads.
