Default midas cichlids

Hi everyone:
New to the forum and fish keeping hobby.
I was looking at starting a tank up with a midas cichlid or two and a jack dempsey.
Profiles on the internet rate them as extremely aggressive.
The pet store attendant said that they were not so aggressive and would do well in a large tank together.
Wondering if anyone had info to share with me...am I heading for trouble with these???
Thak you,
Barbiedee

I have lots of cichlids in my tank. According to most reads some of the fish I have together shouldn’t be in the same tank. Cichlids like space and caves. I have a 150g with tons of rocks, caves, and plants and everyone has been getting along fine for years. They are very aggressive fish but given the right amount of space and shelter they should get along fine. They are very territorial. The only thing I find hard now is introducing a new fish. The established fish seem to respect each other’s territory, there is the occasional scuffle or chase. When I introduce and outsider, a new fish, they all seem to test and terrorize it. If the new addition is tuff enough to hold its ground and claim it part of the tank its accepted in and no longer bothered.
