OnceI got all my boxes unpacked from my move (AZ to NY),, the first thing on the list was the construction of the stands that would hold two tanks. I planned on using an All Glass 90 gallon tank, with the corner overflow. Next to it I wanted to be able to place a 30 gallon DIY refugium made from acrylic, higher then the main tank for circulation purposes. The taller, secondary stand would double as a storage cabinet for all of my aquarium goodies, such as dry food, test kits, salt, spare hoses etc. - [Details] |
DIY 2 X 4 Cabinet Frame - http://saltaquarium.about.com/library/blank/bldiy2x4cabinetframe.htm - Hits: 355 This basic aquarium cabinet frame is constructed of 2" X 4" lumber, commonly used in double wall housing construction. Most lumber yards carry this material. This structure supports the tank and is the base of a tank cabinet. Once constructed, you can cover the frame with any material you wish, including trim. You can make it any height, width or depth you wish. You can also elect to install access doors to the front or sides of the cabinet. The vertical supports are 18" apart, as are the tank support members on the top of the frame. - [Details] |
How to Build a DIY Aquarium Stand - http://www.aquariumlife.net/projects/diy-aquarium-stand/56.asp - Hits: 314 This is a basic design for an aquarium stand that I have built twice, once for a 55 gallon, and once for a 120 gallon. The design could be modified for virtually any glass tank in the 55 to 180 or so gallon range by simply adjusting the length and width. The pictures are from the construction of the stand for my 120 gal unless otherwise indicated. I assume that you have a basic knowledge of how to measure, cut, drill, nail, screw, glue, etc. I also assume that you know proper safety precautions. If you do not know either, please refer to a basic carpentry book. Plan to spend several evenings on this project. It took me about a week working 2 to 3 hours an evening to finish the project. If you are inexperienced at woodworking, plan to take up to twice as long. - [Details] |
First things first: These plans for a 135-gallon tank stand come compliments of the Geothermal Aquaculture Research Foundation, Inc. Therefore, I cannot accept any praise, glory, or responsibility for anything that may go right or wrong. If you decide to use these plans, you do so at your own risk. Now, enough of the disclaimer mumbo-jumbo...let's get to work! - [Details] |

My 6 year old twin boys wanted a pet. As a reward for showing us their responsibility, I set up my old 10 gallon tank in their bedroom. This just made me want to get my tanks going again. I've had them down for about 7 years now, ever since we moved. All my stuff has been stored in the garage. Needless to say the old aquarium stand was used to store things and wasn't in very good shape. Additionally, I wanted to set up both my 55 and 29 gallon aquariums and the old stand was too short for the 29 to go underneath. So, to get going in the fish hobby again, I turned to one of my other hobbies, woodworking. I designed this stand that sits a bit higher. The bottom of the tank is 33" off the floor and the top of the tank is at 53 1/2". At this height, you don't have to stoop so low to gaze in the tank. - [Details] |
The vast majority of commercially available stands for aquariums have very limited space and poor accessiblity. Constructing your own is very simple, can build to your exact requirements and costs a significant amount less than having someone else do it. - [Details] |
